　　云天收夏色，木叶动秋声。

　　Summer ends with curling clouds,Autumn arrives alongside murmuring trees

　　8月7日，立秋节气如约而至。

　　Start of Autumnbegins this year on Aug 7

　　“秋”字由禾与火组成，表示禾谷成熟之意，阳气渐收，万物内敛，收获季节逐渐来临。

　　The character "秋" (autumn) is composed of "禾" (grain) and "火" (fire), symbolizing the ripening of crops, the retreat of yang energy, and the onset of the harvest season.

　　宋时立秋日，皇宫里通常要把栽在盆里的梧桐移入殿内，时辰一到，太史官便高声奏：“秋来了！”，声震天地，叶子从梧桐树上应声而落，这一叶落得铿锵，是天地间久违的音讯，一声定佳期，秋凉飒飒行。

　　In the Song Dynasty, on the Beginning of Autumn, potted Chinese parasol trees or Wutong in the palace were required to move indoors. When the time came, the court scribe would loudly announce, "Autumn has arrived!" The sound would resonate through the heavens, causing the leaves to fall from the trees. This falling leaf was a long-awaited message from nature, marking the start of a cool and breezy autumn.

　　立秋有此三候：

　　The Beginning of Autumn is divided into three periods:

　　一候凉风至。此时，风已不同于暑天热风，气流中隐约裹挟凉意，尤其是晚上的风，会让人感觉舒爽；

　　First, the cool breeze arrives. The wind now carries a faint chill, different from the hot summer breeze, especially at night, bringing a refreshing feeling.

　　二候白露生。立秋节气的第二个五天，大地上早晨会有白色露水产生；

　　Second, white dew appears. In the second five days after the start of autumn, white dew forms on the ground in the mornings.

　　三候寒蝉鸣。立秋节气的最后五天，古人认为感阴的寒蝉也感受到凉风微动，开始鸣叫。

　　Third, the cicadas sing. In the last five days, ancient people believed the cicadas, sensitive to the yin energy, began to chirp as they felt the slight coolness.

　　当然，诗人的感受可能是“寒蝉凄切，对长亭晚，骤雨初歇”。

　　A poet said,

　　“Cicadas chill And drearily shrill,We stand face to face at an evening hour Before the pavilion, after a sudden shower.”

　　立秋后温度还较高，农作物生长旺盛，对水分要求迫切。“立秋无雨人人愁，庄稼从来不丰收”。

　　Though Autumn is coming, temperatures remain high. Crops will not fare without plenty of water.Asanoldsayinggoes， "No rain at the Beginning of Autumn foreshadows a bad harvest."

　　在田野包围的村落、城市中，则有“秋风吹雨过南楼，一夜新凉是立秋”的诗意，

　　In thevillages and cities surrounded by fields, there is poetic sentiment: "Autumn wind blows and rain passes through the south building, and a cool night marks the beginning of autumn.”

　　此时温度虽有起伏，却终究会转凉，“过了立秋节，一夜冷一夜”“立了秋，把扇丢”。

　　Although temperatures may fluctuate, it will eventually cool down. "After the Beginning of Autumn, it gets cooler night by night," and "After the Beginning of Autumn, We don’t need fans anymore."

　　在山东，立秋这天还沉淀下多种民俗习俗，从极具地方特色的晒秋、吃秋渣，到啃秋瓜、秋桃到贴秋膘、戴楸叶等，不同的习俗背后是对平安顺遂的共同期盼。

　　In Shandong province, people still keep various local customs, from bathing produce in the sun to eating Qiuzha or one kind of tofu,from eating melons and peaches, to fleshing out and wearing catalpa leaves. Behind these different customs is a shared hope for peace and prosperity.。
